Cognitive Remediation for Impulsivity in Addictive Disorders: Review of Current Evidence and Future Directions

Abstract Purpose of Review Impulsivity is a core feature underpinning addictive disorders linked to difficulties achieving and sustaining treatment goals. Cognitive remediation promising adjunct intervention approach improve impulse control in disorders, although evidence still preliminary. This review summarizes available discusses opportunities enhance the development delivery future interventions. Recent Findings We identified six studies that delivered cognitive assessed state impulsivity substance use disorders. There was substantial heterogeneity ingredients approaches. key studies, including (1) co-designing interventions, (2) incorporating specific training strategies, (3) increasing practice skills, (4) supporting skill transfer everyday settings, (5) demonstrating clinician compassion. Summary Researchers should work alongside frontline clinicians clients with potential benefit interventions prior high-quality trials.
